Scorpio and books

So,we talked about our favourite movies, music, poems and I wonder what is your favourite novel , or a character from some novel that you can relate to. One of my favourite books is "Crime and punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I can relate to some of the psychological torment of Rodion Raskolnikov, except for my torment are not related to murder,of course.

Have you ever read Sybil? I hear it is pretty graphic. Its about a young girl who is sexually and physically abused by her mother and when she grows up she develops 17 personalities because of it. They made it into a movie. I think anything by stephen king would definatley be a scorpio moon book. On a lighter note, Harry Potter is a good read. It has to do with magic, the unseen, good verses evil.

I know I rambled about it in the movie thread, but THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, by Shriley Jackson, as well as her novel WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE and many of her short stories/other writings are pretty great Scorp-y bits of literature! The main character, Eleanor, in THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE is paranoid, reads a lot into others' intentions, has spent many years containing her emotions, is obsessive, etc. - I can see a lot of Scorpio Moon traits in her. It's a lovely, eerie psychological horror/ghost story, and has interesting, complex relationships in it and plenty of quirkiness.

I would like to add "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer " by Patrick Suskind and "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath to my favourite books.I watched the movie Perfume: The Story of a Murderer and it is nice and colorful, but i like the book better.
And i just rememberd the "Prozac Nation" ,and the book its ok,but i didn´t like the movie very much.

Watering hights supose to be good.

Crime and punishment.. it greatly iritated me hearing all his PARANOIA.. I just read half of it figuring he will end up in jail.. did he?
Wish he could have just taken a few deep breaths here and then.. Or just chill out. Or perhaps killing people on random to reliev the agony.. that would be cool.

H.p Lovecraft is good.. also stephen king,s short storys.

I normally read books about withcraft, the occult, evocations .. stuff like that. Would recomend greek and roman necromancy by daniel ogden. He is a dry schoolar but the things revealed in the book just drips with gore. It,s about talking with the spirits of the dead, how they appeared and what they feed on. A pretty far fetch from the new age movement i may say LOL

Carl jung would be good literature.. anything involving the inner parts, in any process.

Now i know! The alchemist by Paulo coelho.. That,s scorpio stuff if any. Will read his new one the pilgrimage very soon. Somehow his books falls into my life basically at the same time very major changes is occuring. This summer i will go on a pilgrimage to the temple of Hekate in turkey, so it will be interesting what the book points out.. im sure it will co relate with the experience.

Yes, in the crime and punishment the main character did end up in jail,he surrenderd himself, and he was commiteted to 7 years jail time in Sibir, and that girl Sonja waited for him.
Well, there is that humor of yours again, you´re funny ( in a good way of course), love your ideas of how a person should feel and behave after a muder. Youre right,he should just stay cool, two people dead more or less, who counts anyway. This world is full of idiots who deserve to die,but i wouldnt kill them because i consider death to be a reword,so maybe i would just hurt them,a little. ..
Sometimes I do like to read books about withchcraft and the occult, but i am not really into it.
I did like the alchemist, but i didint read anything else by Paulo Coehlo. I dont read spiritual literature much lately, but when i was younger i was reading a lott of Carlos Castenada books.
Now, i guess i am more into "normal" realism novels, and i like psychiatry books, like to learn more about my disorders, and heal myself if its possible
And you are going to Turkey, that trip sounds great, have fun

Don't read anything else by Paulo Coehlo, besides from The Alchemist he keeps with his 'patronizing' story telling in stories he shouldn't. Like an ignorant grandfather who isn't down with your understanding.

I like to read books by Hermann Hesse (Sun Cancer/Moon Pisces)

Actually I don't know much good Moon In Scorpio authors (besides Truman Capote), to be honest I find Cancers authors the best (maybe cause I am one) and then Libras maybe.

Authors I like; Hermann Hesse, Anne Radcliffe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, George Orwell, Franz Kafka, Atoine Saint Expury, Matthew Lewis,

and I think Albert Camus was a Sun In scorpio with his The Outsider (or The Stranger)

Merry, yes, i love Albert Camus and The Stranger, one of my favourites,as well as Franz Kafka and his Proces and The metamorphosis.
And for people who enjoy complety crazy humor storyes i suggest author Danil Harms

Yes, The stranger by Camus is great.

I think you guys will like the Blindness by Jose Saramago. In the sotry, one day, everyone suddenly turned blind, and people struggled for survival by animal instinct.

Hesse is one of my favorite writers. I really like his the Glass Bean Game. The main charater Knecht became a role model to me in high school.

i am sure you guys would like Remembranc of Things Past by Proust. I think Proust is very good in reading people's thought in very little gestures and eye contact.

None of the books on this thread I've read. Glad to have the list and recommendations in writing for reference during the summer holidays. Here's an addition. Geeky, but, what can I say? I'm a geek at heart.

Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. She has a series about a vampire, who is ultra gentlemanly - sexy, hot, hot! Sorry, lost my focus there, in spite of my headache. The series is about a vampire by the name of St. Germain. The stories are all historical fiction with an occult/supernatural twist that is both intrigueing and predictable in that St. Germain (Francis Ragoszy) always ends up leaving for new adventures elsewhere with new gorgeous and smart women who all happen to know he's a vampire and are still willing to sacrifice themselves for a good, well, you know.

Alexandre Dumas - The Count of Monte Cristo. The movie doesn't compare at all, methinks. The book is beautifully written. Might I suggest you read this book in the comfort and privacy of your chamber. It was a tear jerker...for me, anyway.

You noticed, eh? Yeah, you guessed it. Bram Stoker's Dracula is another favourite. Please, no comments about projections. :-)

Thanx for the recommendations.I am always in a search of a good vampire book.
But i need intense vampire book, to make my skin shudder
I did watch "The Count of Monte Cristo". Its ,ok, too see, Specially the part where is that dungeon owner or what ever he is ...MIchael Wincott I love his darken apperance
He captured me still from "The Crow"
And you say that "Bram Stoker's Dracula " is a great book too?
Im sure it is, the movie is briliant, its briliant, ... form head to toe
Maybe that is gonna be my next book

Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series, and, of course, Anne Rice's vampire series and her Mayfair Witches series. Intense.

Forgot to mention that Count of Monte Cristo is not about vampires, at least not as we think it. This is about a man who is betrayed and becomes a dark vengeful force in the lives of people who have hurt (understatement) him. Scorpionic?

                    "Scorpionic? "

                    Only if you think so.

Consider everything with a grain of salt. Every person regardless of astrological sign, social status, race, creed, gender, etc. is capable of the basest as well as the loftiest of motives and actions.

And who defines basest and loftiest?

And i know all the form of human beings are capable for ...anything. I like to rationalise, but if we talk about astrology , scorpio, pluto by its pure nature has natural acess to dirty subjects, in depth, so they can go there easy if they wanna ,its a matter of choice, its not like they are forced to go, they can refuse the Hades invitation

I wasn't referring to you in particular about taking things with a grain of salt, nor about you not knowing that the Count of Monte Cristo was not a vampire. It was intended for others who might not know. Besides, I just had a moment where my head swelled beyond my usual ability to carry it through the door. Thanks for popping it.

                        Hugs,

Not so sure about Twilight. >.> I read it (as well as "New Moon" and "Eclipse") and, as far as I'm concerned, the only thing Scorpionic about it was that vampires and werewolves were even involved. It's poorly written by my standards.

    Small book, hard to find:

The Little Girl who Lives Down the Lane", by Laird Koenig

A review comment - "Moving with swift and shocking turnabout to a profoundlt disturbing denouement, here is a fine and freezing novel of suspense that probes the subtle bonds of innocence to evil."

"Firefly", by Piers Anthony is also a good, but disturbing, read.

      Edward,

Piers Anthony is usually fantasy, sci-fi, am I correct? I have no access to a library where I live at the moment, so I can't go and borrow one out. Is Firefly in the same genre? My partner is nuts about sci-fi stuff. Maybe I can order it for him if it's really good. The stranger, the better.

Forgot to mention! The angst and yearning in Sarah Waters' novels really brings to mind Scorpio qualities for me, as well. TIPPING THE VELVET, AFFINITY, and FINGERSMITH are all set in Victorian-era England and I haven't yet finished her most recent - THE NIGHT WATCH - which is set around WWII. They're really engrossing books full of vivid, sad, fascinating characters.

TIPPING THE VELVET takes place in a coastal oyster village, in the theater with women in drag, on the streets among prostitutes, in the debaucherous home of a circle of wealthy lesbians, and in the Socialist and humanitarian circles of Victorian England. It's good, smutty fun, as well as having some great moments of heartbreak and agony and self-pity and emotional melodrama that really resonated with me.

AFFINITY is a grim, mournful, haunting story of a wealthy woman - in grief over her father's death and the refusal of her affection by her friend/love and with no place in society to do much, being unmarried - who takes on the volunteer position as a 'lady visitor' at a nearby women's prison. The prison has dismal conditions, but she becomes fascinated and enamored with a young woman who formerly worked as a spiritual medium.

FINGERSMITH is gritty and grimy and full of twists and swindling. It centers around a group of theives and a girl kept isolated in her uncle's house, helping him catalogue/sell antique books. I can't say much more, but it's a great one, as wel, and is very rooted in secrets, manipulation, lust, longing, and all sorts of good stuff.

Can't say much about NIGHT WATCH yet, but there's definitely some aching, desperate, longing there, which Waters always writes brilliantly.

"The Sorrows of Young Werther" by Goethe is a nice, romantic book
even if it did start a wave of sucides in that time

                I have the 'Sorrows of Young Werther' and I wrote a some lyrics influenced by it;

                -Fieber-

at the ball we all dance
all i can hope for is a glance
                familiar in past remembrance
i given up all such romance

with your intended, no priest attended
with your intended yet you remain unattended

                between midnight and one
                between you and that one

                --------------------------------------
                It's still in working progress.
